Maureen Mary McGinley Young
The beautiful spirit of Maureen passed from this life peacefully at Virginia Mason Hospital early Monday morning on December 29, 2014 with her husband of 43 years by her side.
Maureen was born June 2, 1948 to John and Mary Ellen McGinley in Seattle, WA where she grew up on Capitol Hill, and attended Holy Names Academy. After graduation she became a hair stylist and worked for 40+ years at the Salon of Robert of Switzerland in downtown Seattle. She joined in matrimony with Earl Young in October of 1971. They enjoyed trips to Reno; bowling and Bingo were a favorite pastime. She loved sports and could converse about football and baseball with absolute confidence and knowledge. Family and friends were very important and she kept in contact by never forgetting to acknowledge a birthday; wedding; sympathies or holiday with a card of well wishes. She had the amazing gift of remembering people, places, events and dates; she was her family's personal data base. In her mother's declining years she would go across town, by bus, to the nursing facility everyday and spent the entire day. Even after her beloved mother passed away, Maureen continued to visit residents at the facility and provide companionship; call Bingo games and supply items they needed.
Maureen is survived by husband Earl and two brothers, Hugh (wife Patricia) and Jim (wife Margo). Although she and Earl had no children, they were blessed with six nieces whom they enjoyed taking on various trips. Those of us left behind feel blessed to have been a part of her life. She will be missed, but never forgotten.
In lieu of any services, remembrances in her name may be sent to a
charity of choice . Her ashes will be interred at the McGinley family plot with her mother, father and brother Patrick at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5041 35th Ave NE, Seattle on February 28th at 1:30 p.m. for those who wish to attend. On Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 a.m. a Mass will be given at Calvary (above address) for all those interred in February.
